How to Clean an R300 Head

Updated February 21, 2017

Epson Stylus Photo R300 Series printers use ink jet technology to spray liquid ink housed in the cartridges onto pages as they pass through the printer. The tiny droplets of ink pass through a series of tiny nozzles located in an assembly called the print head. Over time, some ink droplets may dry and collect around or in some of the nozzles. You will notice the print head needs to be cleaned if lines or dots in the printouts are absent or entire printouts are faded.

Turn on the printer and let it complete its warm-up process. Make sure the red low ink light is not illuminated.

Select the down-arrow button to chose "More Options" and then press "Ok." Press "Ok" once more to start the printer's self-cleaning.

Wait about 30 seconds for the printer to complete the self-cleaning. Do not turn the printer off during this time.

Process another print job to check for problems in the print quality. Clean the print head again if problems still exist.

Replace the print cartridges if the print quality issues continue after cleaning the print head four times.
