A policeman hat represents authority, order and strength. Policeman hats usually have a soft fabric top with a structured hat band and attached badge. These types of hats are easy to make as part of a costume for a Halloween or costume party or for simply having fun around the house. In 20 minutes, you can create your own policeman hat.
Make the police hat pattern double its size and print out a copy of this pattern. You will likely need two bond papers to print out all parts of the pattern.
Trim out the printed pieces of the police hat pattern and place them on the craft foam pieces. Make sure each piece of the police hat pattern matches its corresponding foam colour. For example, the crown piece, which should be your largest shape, goes on the blue craft foam. The badge piece goes on the yellow foam, and the band piece goes on the black foam. Using a pencil, trace the printed pieces on the foam.
Cut out the pieces you traced on the craft foam, and make sure the edges of your cut-outs are neat. Line up the black band at the bottom portion of the blue piece and use glue to attach the two pieces together. Trim off any extraneous parts of the black band on the bottom and sides.
Place the yellow badge foam cut-out at the centre of the blue piece and glue it down. Next, type the word “POLICE” and print out the individual letters. Glue these letters in the centre of the yellow badge, making sure the letters are the correct size to fit the badge. You also can use a black permanent marker to write the world “POLICE” on the badge.
Allow the glue on the headpiece of the police hat to dry for a few minutes. Then, put this headpiece on the sun visor and glue it down. Use clothespins to keep it secure until the glue is completely dry. Next, cut out pieces of the blue craft foam and glue them to any parts of the sun visor that remain visible.
If you want the police hat colours to match those of your local policemen’s uniforms, choose different craft foam colours.
