Updated July 20, 2017

E-mail is one of the fastest and most commonly used methods of communication. Various sites allow users to create free e-mail accounts. Gmail is one of the most popular and easiest to use.

Open your Internet browser.

Type into your address bar. This will take you to the Gmail home page.

Click "Create an account" on the right side of your screen. It is a large, grey button below the sign-in option.

Enter your first and last name.

Enter your desired login name and click "Check availability" to ensure that the name is available. If it isn't, enter an alternate login name or select one of the choices Gmail generates.

Create a password that is not easy to guess.

Select a security question. You may choose from one of the questions suggested by Gmail or create your own.

Type the answer to your security question in the "Answer" box. Make sure it's something you can remember in case you forget your password.

Enter the word verification. Type the red words you see above the box.

Click "I accept. Create my account." at the bottom of the page. This will take you to your inbox.

Never give out your e-mail password.
