You don't want to get a boring old nose ring, nor are you satisfied with just earrings or simple jewellery chains. However, if you put the three together, you can have a smashing look that will wow the crowd. Worn in various cultures for many years, especially in India, nose piercing to earring chain jewellery has not yet become the rage in America, so grab it while it's hot.

  1. 1

Ready your piercings. To pull off such a look, you're going to need a nose and an ear lobe piercing. Make sure both piercings are fully established and free of infection. Take a small string and loop it gracefully from the side of your nose where your piercing is to the ear lobe piercing. You want the string to arc gracefully in the middle, not be too tight or dig into your cheek. Measure the string to get the length of chain you'll need. You can use a higher piercing on your ear for the jewellery, but the chain is then likely to hang above your eye, which will be annoying, to say the least.

  2. 2

Choose your style. Keep in mind this type of facial jewellery is going to bring you a lot of attention. Keep it as subtle as possible until you build up your confidence. This would include a pair of simple gold or silver studs linked by a thin gold or silver chain. If you have a devil-may-care attitude about it already, go for whatever style best fits your personality. A selection of such jewellery can be found at body piercing shops or online (see Resources below).

  3. 3

Adjust the chain length, if needed. Hold the ends of the jewellery near both piercings to see where the chain hangs. If it's too long, use pliers to unhook and remove a few chain links until it's the size of your string measurement. If the chain is too short, use pliers to open the connector near the ear stud and add a few jewellery hoops until it's the length of your string.

  4. 4

Insert the jewellery. Make sure the chain lays flat with no kinks, knots or tangles. Carefully insert the nose and ear piece, securing them well.

  5. 5

Keep the chain free of any object on which it may get caught and pulled. Practice wearing it around the house so you get used to having a chain draped across your face.

  6. 6

Wear it proudly, but wear it wisely. You know people are going to stare. Make sure your confidence level is high before you walk out the door and let them stare. Since it is such a unique and attention-grabbing ornament, also make sure not to wear it where it will be a detriment or distraction, such as job interviews at an investment firm or church.

Tips and warnings

  • Remove the jewellery before bed so it does not get snagged on the pillow.
  • Remove the jewellery while you shower, play soccer and other sports (or don a mask).
  • Make the jewellery the last thing you put on and first thing you take off for the day so it doesn't get snagged on pullover shirts and sweaters or scarves.
  • Keep other jewellery minimal and matching. This piece is your statement--don't clog it up with distractions.
