What Is a Good Green Paint Color for a Kitchen With Oak Cabinets?

When choosing a colour for your kitchen, you must take into account the tone of the existing cabinet finish. If your kitchen cabinets are made of oak, green paint can be a good complement. Choose the right shade depending on the cabinets' finish.

Light Oak Cabinets

Oak cabinets that are finished with a clear or light finish contrast beautifully with deep green shades, such as forest green. Deep teal, or blue-green, also enhances the light finish of these cabinets.

Dark Oak Cabinets

If your oak cabinets are finished with a dark stain, then stick to lighter shades of green to keep your kitchen from looking gloomy. Pale mint green or lime green paints look fresh and they help to balance the deep colour of your cabinets.

Opposites Attract

Some cabinet finishes for oak tend to look slightly orange. Greens with a hint of blue accentuate these finishes, as blue is located opposite orange on the colour wheel. Likewise, if your cabinets feature a more yellow finish, then opt for a green paint with a touch of grey, such as sage. Hold colour samples in a variety of shades up to your cabinets to determine if the paint could potentially clash or whether it creates a good colour balance.
