Updated April 17, 2017

The “Check Engine” light on your Toyota Scion XB can come on for a variety of reasons. The light may turn on because your car is in need of regular maintenance such as an oil change, or it may be indicative of a more serious problem with the engine such as sensor failure or an abnormal sensor reading.

  1. Start the car. Press the odometer switch located to the left of the odometer display until the display indicates your “odometer” reading rather than the “trip” reading.

  2. Turn the key to the “off” position.

  3. Press down and hold the odometer switch. Do not release it until instructed.

  4. Turn the key to the “on” position without starting the engine while keeping the odometer switch depressed.

  5. Keep the switch pressed down until the “Check Engine” light turns off. Let go of the switch and return the key to the “off” position.
