How to Reset the Light for a Mitsubishi Airbag

Updated February 21, 2017

You can reset the airbag light on your Mitsubishi right from your home garage or driveway, saving yourself time and money. The airbag light will illuminate on the instrument panel as "SRS," which stands for "Supplemental Restraint System." Usually this light only turns on when the vehicle has been in an accident. If you see it turn on while you are driving, pull over immediately and call a tow truck. The vehicle should not be driven until it has been looked at and repaired by a qualified mechanic. Once the repairs have been made, you or your mechanic should reset the airbag light to keep the computer functioning properly and to shut off the SRS warning light.

  1. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "Acc" position, but don't allow the engine to turn over.

  2. Plug the OBD-II scanner into the diagnostic port under the steering column.

  3. Wait for the scanner to read the codes and then press "Clear trouble codes" or "Reset" or some similar command to reset the airbag light.

  4. Unplug the scanner from the port and start the engine. Verify that the SRS light has turned off.
