Birthday gift ideas for a 13 year old girl

Updated April 17, 2017

Teenage girls love to express themselves by personalising their space. They also enjoy decorating things they own and receiving gifts which are special to them -- something only they would have. Thirteen-year-old girls are just beginning to discover personal interests, such as make-up, fashion, music, or science. On her birthday, get her something she'll love by thinking about the qualities that make her stand out and items that allow her to experiment with her interests.

Gift Cards

Gift cards are an excellent gift for 13 year-old girls, because they usually love shopping. If she spends time at the mall, find out her favourite store, and get her a gift card to use the next time she goes out with her friends. If she doesn't spend time mall-dwelling with friends, see if she enjoys another activity such as reading, and get a gift token to a book store. If you don't know her well enough to know where she shops or her main interests, a gift card to an online department store such as is perfect because they stock a multitude of clothes, electronics, shoes, and jewellery.

Do-It-Yourself Kits

Many young teenage girls develop a specific hobby related to art, fashion, music, science or crafts. Luckily there are kits for do-it-yourself activities for each of these hobbies. If she likes art, find a stencil or pastel kit. If she enjoys making jewellery, buy her a set of special beads for her birthday. Age-appropriate cosmetics also make a great gift for young teens, such as a lip gloss set or a gift set of bath products. Science-minded 13-year-olds might enjoy an educational kit, such as an ant farm or rock polishing kit.

Kids nowadays always want the latest gadget. From MP3 players to mobile phones, many 13-year-olds hope for the latest electronics for their birthday. A mobile phone with limited calling capabilities or a pay-as-you-go model is a sensible choice for teens, to keep talking time in check. A small MP3 for holding all her music or an electric guitar for a budding rock star will let her show her personality and are gifts she can really use.
