Gifts for Difficult Men

Updated November 21, 2016

It's simply hard to choose presents for some men. Maybe he is picky and prefers choosing things himself. Other men might seem to have everything, or can never come up with a list of items they might want. When you start coming up with gift ideas, think about hobbies he has or things he enjoys doing. Trips or experiences are also good gift ideas for difficult men.

Maybe you can't come up with the perfect gift for a man in your life. Odds are, he is a fan of something, whether it is a particular sport, a musical group or the theatre. Purchase him a couple of tickets to a game, concert or show that you know he would enjoy. You could go with him, or he could take someone who shares his passion. This is a gift that he won't want to return, and you won't feel like you have wasted money on something he really does not need or want.

Gift Cards

Some men are exceptionally picky and enjoy shopping for themselves. If that's the case for someone you are purchasing a gift for, go with a gift card. While gift cards can sometimes seem impersonal, they need not be. For example, if he enjoys golfing, give him a gift card to a local golf course or sporting goods store. Maybe he wears suits regularly to work. Dressing that way can become expensive, so give him a gift card to a men's clothing store.

You can't go wrong if you choose a gift that goes along with a hobby he loves. For example, some men like to go camping on the weekends. Create a camping gift basket for him, filled with a blanket, flashlights, insect repellent, a bag of marshmallows and other nonperishable snacks, and picnic supplies. Another man might enjoy collecting vinyl records. Give him a record guide that tells him how much his records are worth. Many modern artists are now putting out records in addition to CDs, so give him a record by a singer or group that he loves.

For a man who doesn't need anything and might not want something that will clutter his home, give him a trip. Maybe he enjoys relaxing on the beach. Take him on a cruise or head down to the coast for a weekend. Other men might prefer hitting the open road and taking a trip out of town. Drive with him back to his college town or to a city that is known for its food or nightlife.
