Mercury Marine manufactures the Mercruiser 4.3L V6. The engine has several unique features, such as a patented "Turn Key Starting" technology that eliminates the need for priming or choking. Its audio alarm system monitors oil pressure, engine temperature and drive lube. If any of these are abnormal, an alarm sounds alerting the operator of a potential problem. Mercury also includes an industry-exclusive three-year/3,000-hour limited warranty against corrosion failure.

Mechanical Specs

The Mercruiser 4.3L V-6 is a six-cylinder engine with 4.3 litres -- 262 cubic inches -- of displacement. It delivers 190 horsepower at a maximum 4,800 revolutions per minute. Fuel is delivered via a two-barrel carburettor and runs on 87 Octane fuel.

Electrical Specs

The electrical system of the Mercruiser 4.3L is a 12-volt negative ground system. The alternator provides up to 72 amps of power and is coupled to a battery with 375 cold cranking amps, which is rated at 90 amps per hour.

Other Specs

The oil pump delivers a maximum of 70 PSI at 2,000 RPM and 4 PSI at idle. The water-cooled 4.3L engine operates at 71.1 degrees Celsius controlled by a thermostat. The engine timing is set at -12.2 degrees C before top dead centre, with the cylinders firing in the following order: 1-6-5-4-3-2. The engine weighs 405 to 409 Kilogram, depending on the specific model.
