Snacks to Serve With Margaritas

Margaritas are a popular south of the border alcoholic beverage. Made with tequila, lime juice and triple sec, these drinks are served either frozen or on the rocks. The margarita can be varied by adding fruit, flavoured alcohol and other items to the drink. An appetizer or snack takes the edge off hunger in between meals. Snacks with a Southwestern or Mexican theme pair well with margaritas.

Southwestern Crudités

Delight your palate and compliment your margarita with a healthy snack of a plate full of crudités. These are raw vegetables cut into bite-sized pieces. Add a Southwestern-style dip with some zing for a tasty accompaniment, says A. J. Rathbun, author of "Party Snacks!" Use some spicy chilli peppers or a Tabasco sauce to pack a punch in dip. Bell peppers, carrots, cauliflower and green beans are good vegetables for a snack plate.

Mexican Shrimp

Keep snacks simple with a few ingredients that are already found in margaritas. Take shrimp with the shell on, lime juice and sea salt, wrap them in foil and bake at 176 degrees Cor 20 minutes. Kate Heyhoe offers this and numerous other snack and appetizer recipes in "Kate's Global Kitchen" online cookbook and other cookbooks.

Queso and Bean Dips

Keep the Southwestern flair alive with a classic frozen margarita and a simple cheese dip with nachos, or a spicy bean dip with corn or flour tortillas. Use authentic Mexican cheeses such as Oaxaca to melt into a dip. Combine jalapeño or habañero peppers for some added spice. Mix in refried or black beans to add a little heartiness to this simple snack.
