How to Make Bisto Without Meat Drippings

Bisto is a brand name for a granulated gravy base. This base is supposed to be mixed with meat drippings from cooking, but you do not need these drippings to make a savoury gravy. Use Bisto gravy powder in place of cornstarch as a thickener for any gravy recipe. The additional flavourings in the Bisto will make your gravy taste better than using cornstarch alone, even if you do not use meat drippings.

  1. Whisk together the Bisto and cold water.

  2. Bring 1 cup of water and a bullion cube to a boil over medium heat to dissolve the bullion cube.

  3. Stir the Bisto and cold-water mixture into the boiling water, and continue to heat it until the gravy thickens.

  4. Tip

    Change the type of bullion used for making different flavoured gravies. For instance, use chicken bullion for chicken gravy or a vegetarian-based bullion for a gravy without meat flavour.
