When you've got young students and you're eager to challenge their creativity, hosting a crazy sock day gives them something new to look forward to. For crazy sock day you ask students to come to school wearing a pair of bright, colourful or patterned socks. It's up to you to use the sock day for classroom lessons and activities such as partnering students to learn why their partners chose the socks they did. You could also come up with your own original spin to the crazy sock day to keep their imaginations going.

More Than Just Socks

If your crazy sock day needs more activities, consider holding a photo contest with kids as they make zany faces and pose in weird positions, like hanging upside down on the monkey bars. Assign students to write a story completely based on a fictitious character who's wearing the crazy socks. Arrange for a photographer to take a photo of everyone in the classroom kicking out their legs with their arms wrapped around each other to display their crazy socks. Turn your crazy sock day into more than just wearing socks.

Crazy Hat Day

Initiate a crazy hat day, very similar to the crazy socks only with hats. Give students a dedicated day to find the perfect hat that represents their personality and wear it to school on the designated day. Here's the perfect photo opportunity to capture all of your students' smiling faces as they pose wearing their berets and sombreros and turbans and stovepipe hats.

Cupcake Wars

Bake several plain cupcakes, of whatever flavour you choose, and bring to school with several different decorative items. Let the students use icing, sprinkles and chocolate chips to decorate cupcakes together. For a classroom project, assign students to describe their own original name of the cupcake and introduce the new flavour to the class.

Crazy Costume Day

Tell students to work with their parents and siblings to craft a funny costume that they can wear on crazy costume day. Perhaps it's rolling up dad's overalls he uses in the garden or digging through old clothes at a costume shop or consignment store for ideas. On crazy costume day the students will be able to show their costumed personalities to the class, no matter if it's a monster or a high-school hero like their older brother who's on the football team.
