Themed gifts have an added personal touch to them. Electrical-themed foods are a great gift idea for to someone who has recently been accepted into an electrician's apprentice program, a friend or family member who is an electrician or just to say thank you for a job well done. There are some creative ways to give an ordinary edible gift an electrifying twist. Some can easily be purchased at the last minute, but most will need preparation.

Toolbox Gift Basket

Most florists offer gift baskets full of fruit, cookies or candies. If your local florist doesn't offer an electrician's tool box gift basket, try an online service that will overnight a basket to your area, like Mens-Gifts.com. Generally, the tool box gift basket comes with tool-shaped chocolates, candies and cookies.

Liquorice Wire

Liquorice ropes look a lot like wire. Liquorice can usually be picked up at any convenience store, but a candy speciality store will have a larger selection. Get liquorice is three or four different colours. Line a shoebox with brown paper on the outside and waxed paper or cellophane on the inside. Poke a hole in the lid for each colour and label them "copper wire." Pull a small amount of each colour through the hole and tie it in a knot so it can't slip back in.

Shaped Cookies

Light bulb- and plug-shaped cookies can be hand formed before baking. To sell the idea of what each item is, use cookie icing to decorate them. A breaker box cookie needs only to be rectangular. Ice the cookie so that it is silver or grey, then make switches out of smaller pieces of cookie. Make some long and some short, just like in a real breaker box. An electrical socket cookie can be formed by using a new, unused outlet cover as a cookie cutter. Let a small amount of dough pop out of the holes in the cover and ice the cookie to look like there are plug holes in the raised area.

The shape of a light bulb can be easily cut from a sheet cake. Ice the cake white on the bulb area and grey or dark yellow for the screw part. Alternatively, make cupcakes and arrange them on a baking tray in the shape of a light bulb. Ice the cupcakes that make up the bulb part white and the ones that make to screw bottom grey or dark yellow once you have arranged them.
