Tinkerbell is one of the most beloved characters in children's literature and film. Originally a sidekick to Peter Pan, she is a sassy little pixie who has gone on to become a star in her own right and is featured in television shows and films. You do not have to be a little girl to want to step into the puffy shoes of Tinkerbell, if only for one night, and Halloween gives you the opportunity.

Style Considerations

Since you are an adult, make your Tinkerbell costume to be more in line with the image you wish to project. Go with the modern Tinkerbell, who is portrayed as innocent, girlish and bubbly. Alternately, style yourself more in line with the original Tinkerbell, who is a bit more sexy and temperamental. If you are going to an adult costume party, push the envelope: make your Tinkerbell more of a sexy vixen. A little adjustment of the hem line, make-up and attitude make all the difference.

Tinkerbell wears a green, strapless minidress with a jagged-cut hemline. Make your own tube dress if you know how to sew. If not, find a short, green dress. A shirt with straps, or even a tank top and short skirt, will work, but try to stay in the spring green colour family as that is the most recognisable part of the outfit. Cut a jagged edge along the hemline. If the fabric unravels or is stringy, use a brush to apply a fabric stiffener along the edge to stop the unravelling and allow you to cut away any hanging threads.

Hair and Make-Up

If you have long, blond hair, you are in luck. All you need to finish off the Tinkerbell look is to style your hair so that it is fuller or fluffier in the front, with a neat little bun in the back. If you do not have hair like Tinkerbell, use a wig. Try to find one already styled. If a styled wig is not available, put a wig on a mannequin head -- or a friend's head if a mannequin is not available -- and style it before the big event.

Tinkerbell does not need a lot of make-up. Use a little blush on your cheeks, some pink lip gloss and eyeliner to give yourself a big, doe-eyed look for an innocent Tinkerbell. For a sexier pixie, consider some sparkly blush and eye shadow with long, black eyelashes and hot pink lipstick.

Tinkerbell proudly wears her fairy wings, which are available for a reasonable price at most stores that sell Halloween costumes and decor. If you prefer to make them yourself, make a wire frame, cover it with tights and fashion a harness out of ribbon to allow you to wear them.

Tinkerbell's shoes are green with big white pom-poms on the front. Any kind of green shoe works, as they are not very noticeable under the pom poms. Hot glue the pom poms on securely, or, if your shoe has lace holes, wire them on.

Tinkerbell carries a wand with a yellow star at the tip. If you cannot find a wand, paint a dowel and glue cardboard stars on one end. Carry some glitter to sprinkle around as fairy dust to complete the image.
