The "Lion King" film is a popular party theme and a multitude of party items are available for purchase to match the theme. However, for an original party that cannot be purchased at the store, consider making the party items at home, from the invitations to the party favours for the guests to remember the event.

You can purchase "Lion King"-themed invitations or make your own. To make invitations to hand deliver to the guests, place a piece of green card stock in the centre of brown card stock (the green should be 1/2-inch smaller than the brown). Then top the rectangles with a silhouette of a lion, which can then hold the party details. Alternatively, cut a lion shape from a piece of fabric and glue the fabric onto the reverse side of the card. Write the party details on the opposite side of the card stock.
For any age group, you can turn the party room into an African jungle with blue fabric walls for the sky and cardboard cutout trees. Purchase or make cardboard cutouts of jungle animals from the movie, including lions, giraffes, hyenas, warthogs and meerkats. Artistic parents or party planners can make a large mural for one wall with an African theme. Cover the party tables with green tablecloths. Tie some green and brown helium-filled balloons to stuffed jungle animals and use these as table centrepieces.
Activities & Games
For a children's event, the children can help make sugar cookies in animal shapes to decorate with icing later. For young children, have the cookies baked ahead of time and use the decorating as the party activity. Play "pin the tail on the lion" or play a game of freeze dance to "Lion King" music. At the end of the party, let everyone take a swing at a lion-shaped piñata. For a final party activity, guests can make their own jungle stuffed animal from pre-cut fabric with holes to show them where to sew. For a teen or adult party, consider a game of limbo to the movie soundtrack, or bring in a karaoke machine for the guests. During the meal, put the "Lion King" movie on the television for the group to enjoy.
Have the party guests top circles of pizza dough with the toppings of their choice to make animal faces. Create bugs on a log from celery, peanut butter and raisins. Use cheese spread if there are any allergy concerns. Make a cake in a circular cake pan, and to make the lion's mane, bake cupcakes and place them around the lion's head.
Have each guest take home a jungle-themed stuffed animal. Wrap cookies shaped like animals in cellophane wrap and tie them closed with ribbon. Alternatively, make up goody bags for the party guests that are filled with items such as animal crackers, small lion or jungle-themed figurines, animal magnets, modelling clay with animal-shaped cookie cutters and animal activity books.
