The snowman is one of the iconic images associated with Christmas and the holidays. Use the classic design to make decorative objects for friends and family members. Make use of pantyhose you already have on hand or pantyhose that you buy for the project. Christmas snowman craft projects are suitable for both pantyhose and some types of socks.
Purchase pantyhose and tights for the female members of your family and female friends, including adult women, teenage girls and children. Spread the pantyhose out on a flat surface and place flat pieces of cardboard inside each pair. Use fabric paint in shades of white, red and black to draw small snowmen on both sides of the pantyhose. Give the snowmen three white round pieces for the body, a small black top hat and a red scarf. If you're worried about the snowmen looking stretched out once the woman wears the pantyhose, make the design as basic as possible. The more elements you add to the design, such as facial features, the more chance the design will be distorted when worn.
Stuff the bottom foot of a pair of pantyhose with cotton balls or cotton batting designed for pillows. Tie a knot in the area above the cotton batting, closing off the bottom area. Stuff the next section of pantyhose with more cotton balls and tie another knot. Repeat the process one more time, giving you three stuffed sections. Cut off the top above the last stuffed section and tie it closed with a small piece of ribbon or string. Hot glue three black buttons to the snowman's chest and wrap a piece of red fabric around its neck to serve as the scarf. Use more buttons to make the snowman's face, and glue a doll's top hat to its head.
Trace a basic snowman outline on a sheet of cardboard. Place the outline on the pantyhose and cut the pantyhose to match the outline. Keep moving the outline to a different spot and cutting, making as many miniature snowmen as possible. Sew the pantyhose together by placing small stitches around the edges and glue a small pin to the back, turning the pieces into buttons. For a more three-dimensional look, add a thin sheet of cotton batting into the middle of the pantyhose stack. Use fabric paint to give the snowman his white colour and other decorations.
Spray a small polystyrene foam ball with spray adhesive and wrap the pantyhose around the ball, cutting off the excess. Glue a tiny doll-sized hat to the top of the ball and black buttons for the snowman's eyes and mouth. Cut a piece of white felt into a puddle shape and wrap it with more pantyhose, using the spray adhesive to secure the pieces together. Glue the round ball to the top of the puddle and present it as a dirty, melted snowman for a gag gift.
