A magician is a mystical character full of secrets. Most magicians wear formal wear during performances to add an air of intrigue and elegance to the event. It is easy to create your own magician's costume, because any dark-coloured suit can work as the basis for the costume. If you do not already own a black suit, you can purchase an inexpensive suit from a thrift store. Children's suits are also available at many thrift stores. Add a cape and a few embellishments to complete the look.

Cut one piece of black satin and one piece of red satin each to 3 feet by 2 feet. Pin the two pieces of fabric together. This will be your cape. You can make the cape longer if it is for an adult.

Sew the fabric along the edges using a ¼-inch seam allowance. Leave a small 2-inch gap on one side of the fabric. Turn the fabric inside out to hide the seam. Fold the raw edges of the hole inside the fabric, and sew the opening closed.

Put on a black suit with a white shirt. Pin a red carnation to the breast of the suit.

Put on black socks and shoes. Put on white gloves.

Put on a top hat and grab a magic wand (you can purchase a top hat and wand at costume shops, or magic and novelty shops).

Pin the ends of your cape to the shoulders of the suit with safety pins.
