Devo was an iconic band of the 1980s. Started in 1973 by lead singer Gerald Casale in Akron, Ohio, the band's fame came after the release of the songs "Girl U Want" and "Whip It." In their video for "Whip It," the band wore red hats that became known as the Energy Dome or Devo Hats. The hat has become as iconic as the music itself. You can make your own Devo hat at home with a few craft store supplies.

Plug in your hot glue gun. A medium setting is best for this project if you are able to adjust the temperature.
Glue the two flat styrofoam rings together one on top of the other. Do not be shy with the glue. Press the rings together for about 30 seconds and wait for the glue to dry 1 minute.
Glue the bottom of the 10-inch styrofoam disc. Stick the disc to the top of the two styrofoam rings. Press the disc down for 30 seconds. Allow the glue to dry.
Glue the 8-inch disc. Stick it to the 10-inch disc and hold it down for 30 seconds.
Glue on the bottom of the 6-inch disc. Press it firmly down to attach it to the 8-inch disc.
Check over your hat once it is fully assembled to make sure that all the pieces are secure. Hot glue any areas that are loose.
Spread newspaper out in a well ventilated area. Put your Devo hat onto the newspaper.
Read the directions for your spray paint. Following the instructions, spray paint your Devo dome, making sure to spray evenly.
Look over your hat after spraying to make sure you didn't miss any spots. Spray any missed spots and then apply a second layer of paint.
Allow your Devo hat to dry for 2 hours before wearing.
