The couch is often the focal piece of furniture in a living room or family room; it's the place where family members congregate to play games, talk and watch movies. If you couch is anything less than comfortable, you have a problem. Sagging couches, caused from years of use, result when the springs underneath the couch loose their resiliency. Simply sitting on the couch causes it to sag, making getting up off the couch a slight battle. Luckily, you don't need to reupholster or toss out your couch. You can solve the sagging issues yourself, using a couple quick fixes.
Remove the cushions from your couch. Measure the length and width of the flat area that supports your cushions and which your cushions rest upon.
Visit a home supply store or lumber yard and purchase a board that is 1 inch shorter in length and width as the area you just measured.
Place the board on top of the flat area and then place the cushions on top. Once you sit on the couch you will notice a greater sense of springiness and a less saggy, sinking sensation when you sit on the couch.
Remove the foam from each couch cushion and remove the batting. Measure the length, width and height of each cushion. Purchase upholstery foam for couch cushions that is 1 to 2 inches higher than that height of the foam you just measured.
Trace the length and width of each cushion with a piece of chalk. Cut the foam with an electric knife, following your tracing. Wrap each cushion in batting and stuff it back in the cushion covers. New foam cushions will remove any lingering sense of sagging from your couch.
