"ATI PowerPlay" is a feature of the "ATI Catalyst Control Center" for notebook graphics cards based on ATI Radeon chipsets. It is a power management feature which helps to conserve battery life in notebook computers by handling appropriate power profiles depending on how the computer is being used. The feature is included in all of the most recent drivers for ATI graphics cards. However, some users may prefer to disable it in the case it causes a drop in performance or other issues.

Start up your laptop and log into Windows.
Right-click anywhere on a blank area of the desktop and choose "ATI Catalyst Control Center." This will load the control panel for your graphics card, allowing you to configure a wide variety of settings including those for ATI PowerPlay.
Select "PowerPlay" from the menu on the left-hand side of the window. You will be able to see all of the options pertaining this feature. You can either disable PowerPlay by unchecking the "Enable PowerPlay" box or you can configure the various profiles depending on whether your laptop is plugged in or running off the battery. Click "OK" at the bottom of the Catalyst Control Center when done. The changes will take effect immediately.
