How to Make Nasty Scaly Skin for Halloween

Updated February 21, 2017

When you want a zombie or monster costume for Halloween, create a gruesome effect with peeling, scaly skin. Scaly, broken skin has a horrifying effect when people are expecting to see smooth skin, and it can take your Halloween costume to the next level. Prepare this make-up concoction a few hours before going trick-or-treating or before your party, allowing it to dry thoroughly

Crush ½ cup of cornflakes lightly with the back of a spoon. While you should not crush it into a powder, break up the flakes so they are smaller.

Spread spirit gum over the area that you want to make scaly. Your spirit gum may come with an applicator or you can apply it with a brush.

Sprinkle the crushed cornflakes on the sticky area. The more thickly you apply the cornflakes, the more scaly the skin looks.

Brush liquid latex over the cornflakes.

Wait for the liquid latex to be dry to the touch. This takes between 10 and 20 minutes.

Brush powder foundation over the dry liquid latex. Choose a powder that is a few shades lighter than your skin tone for an unhealthy pallor.

Use grits or cornmeal instead of cornflakes for a gritty texture.
