How to Reformat a Compaq Using a Recovery Partition

Reformat your Compaq's hard drive to fix any serious operating issue with the computer's software or to wipe the hard drive clean before you sell it. Each Compaq includes a recovery partition you can use to reformat the hard drive and return the computer to the original factory settings. With the recovery partition, no recovery discs or additional software are needed to perform the recovery procedures for the Compaq.

    Restart the Compaq.

    Press the "F11" key once the computer turns back on to access the recovery partition.

    Click the "System Recovery" option under the "I need help immediately" category. Click "Next."
