Gauging your ears stretches the piercing holes wide, and you can insert a wide array of different jewellery. When your ears are gauged to accommodate a size 5/8 plug, you can use lip balm caps from Chapstick, Burt's Bees and others of the same size. Knowing how to make gauge plugs for your ears out of Chapstick lids isn't difficult, and gives you the ability to get creative with your adornments.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 4 small rubber bands
- 2 Chapstick lids
Place the opened end of the Chapstick lid over the hole on the front side of your ear lobe. Aim it to where the edges line up with the pierced hole.
Twist the Chapstick lid into the stretched hole. Push it until it is halfway through the stretched, gauged piercing.
Snap a 1/2 inch gauge rubberband of any colour over the back end of the Chapstick lid. This keeps it in place while adding a little colour.
Snap a small coloured rubber band over the front of the Chapstick lid. This performs the same function as the rubberband on the backside. Repeat steps one through four with the other lid if needed.
