Make a floral crown accessory for weddings, to wear with a Renaissance or fairy costume, or to use for a Pagan May Day festival. Make your floral crowns, or flower circlets, using silk flowers in your choice of colours. Create crowns for events during all seasons, using pastels for spring festivals and warm colours such as orange, red and gold for autumn festivals. These crowns are fully adjustable in size for kids and adults. Sprinkle craft glitter on the crown for a sparkly fairy look, or create the crown with silk leaves rather than flowers for a Mother Nature look.

Instructions

  1. 1

Remove silk flowers from the stems by pulling them off or cutting them with wire cutters.

  2. 2

Cut eight, 16-inch satin ribbons with scissors. Use thin or thick satin ribbons in a variety of colours to match your flowers. The satin ribbons are for tying the crown to your head. They are adjustable by tightening the strings for child and adult sizes.

  3. 3

Tie four satin ribbons onto each end of the covered floral wire stem. Trim the tails off the ribbon to 1/2 inch long.

  4. 4

Cut two, 6-inch pieces of floral tape with scissors. Pull the tape lightly to activate the stickiness, and wrap the floral tape around the floral wire to cover the ties of the satin ribbon. Begin wrapping around the tails of the ribbon, wrapping to the end of the floral wire, to create a clean edge. The floral tape covers the ribbon ends tied to the wire and helps to pad the edges of the wire to prevent scratching on your head.

  5. 5

Cut 15, 6-inch pieces of floral tape. Wrap the stems of the flowers, using floral tape, onto the floral wire. Begin with a flower in the middle of the wire, and wrap one piece of floral tape around to secure the flower. Overlap the rest of the flowers, facing them towards the middle, to cover both sides of the wire.

Tips and warnings

  • Place hair clips over the crown and into the hair to secure.
  • Tie the crown on your head using all eight of the ribbons, or use two on each side and let the other ribbons hang down for decoration.
  • Use caution when using wire cutters.
