How to unlock a recliner sofa

Updated February 21, 2017

A recliner sofa is a type of hybrid furniture that combines the comfort of a recliner with the practicality of a sofa. The two basic types of recliner sofas are manual and electronic. Both types of recliner sofas lock in place as a non-reclining traditional sofa. To unlock the reclining mechanism of the sofa, you either press on a button on an electronic model or pull a lever on a manual model.

Sit down on the recliner sofa. Situate your body on a reclining section of the sofa. Most recliner sofas have multiple sections. Each individual section may or may not recline. Make sure your entire body is on a single reclining section.

Press and hold the release button. The release button is typically located on the side of the sofa.

Release the button at the desired recline angle.

Press the button to return the recliner portion of the sofa to its locked, non-reclining position.
