A Honda CBR1100XX is powered by a chain-drive system that uses a pair of sprockets to turn the rear wheel. Part of maintaining the chain lies in replacing the sprockets if any of their teeth are worn or broken to prevent the chain from slipping. Unlike the rear sprocket, which is mounted to the rear wheel for easy removal, the front sprocket is hidden beneath a small cover on the left side of the motor. In order to pull the sprocket, the CBR's fairings must be partially removed. This job will take you a minimum of 30 minutes to complete.
Pull the trim clips out from the bottom of the left lower fairing. Unscrew the fairing's bolts with a 4mm Allen wrench. Pull the fairing away from the left side of the motorcycle to access the front sprocket cover.
Loosen the rear axle's nut, using a socket wrench fitted with a 27mm socket. Loosen the locknuts on both of the rear wheel's chain tensioners with a 10mm wrench. Turn the tensioners' adjustment bolts counterclockwise with a 10mm wrench to loosen the drive chain.
Lift the motorcycle onto its centre stand, then push the rear wheel forward to loosen the chain further.
Unscrew the bolts from the front sprocket cover's perimeter with an 8mm socket. Pull the cover away from the motor.
Place the motorcycle in first gear, using the foot-operated shift lever, to prevent the front sprocket from turning. Lift the drive chain off the front sprocket. Unscrew the sprocket's mounting bolt with a 14mm socket, then pull the sprocket off the motor's countershaft.
