How to Unlock Navigon FreshMaps

Written by dan harkins | 13/05/2017

Navigon manufactures GPS navigation devices and software used on smart phones that can be updated regularly to keep users on the right path. Using the company's "FreshMaps" service, users pay a subscription to have its maps updated 12 times in three years. If you're locked out of FreshMaps, though, your device may need a firmware upgrade. If you're using the company's 2100, 2120, 5100 or 7100 device, FreshMaps should be unlocked upon purchase if you have version 1.1 or 1.2 installed. If you're using an older version --- on a device or smart phone --- you'll need to upgrade to unlock FreshMaps.

Register your device or software with Navigon to access the latest software version of 1.2. Navigate to the second Resources link and fill out the form to gain access to your software update. After you've registered, you'll gain access to a support page with a series of upgrade links.

Click on the link for the firmware upgrade for your specific device or smart phone version. Choose "Save File" and save the ZIP file to your computer. Turn on your GPS device or smart phone and plug it in to your computer using your USB adaptor. After the file has downloaded, double-click it, then select "Run." Follow the prompts to install the latest version of your firmware.

Download Navigon's FreshMaps software at the Navigon shop. Click the link for the FreshMaps installation file, after payment arrangements have been made. (If you've already downloaded the software, it should be unlocked and ready to use with the updated firmware.)

Choose "Save File" to download the FreshMaps software to a convenient location on your computer. Double-click the downloaded installation file, then choose "Run" and follow the prompts to fully install the software on your computer and unlock its functionality on your device.
