In the first two movies of the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, Anakin Skywalker wore standard Jedi robes. In "Episode III," however, his look took on a very distinctive style. If you are creating this look as a costume, you will have to combine found clothing items with a few pieces that you make yourself. With a bit of shopping and a bit of sewing, you will be ready to go to the dark side in no time.
Cut a shoulder-width piece of black vinyl long enough to extend from your knees to your shoulders and back again.
Fold the vinyl in half and lay it down onto a clean workspace.
Cut a teardrop shape into the fabric's front section that overlaps into the centre fold of the vinyl. The overlap will serve as the tunic's neck hole, while the pointed end of the teardrop will taper down to your belly; this will leave the chest area open.
Cut a slit from the bottom of the teardrop to the bottom of the vinyl's front side to create an open robe appearance. Imagine a round top on a Y; that's the shape you're going for.
Fold the edges of the vinyl back 1/4 inch and safety pin them in place.
Hem the folded edges with black thread. This will make the tunic look more manufactured and not simply cut out of a piece of fabric. You can do this by hand if you have to, but if you have access to a sewing machine, the job will be much easier.
Put on a dark green undershirt, ideally with a slight V-neck.
Remove the buttons and collar from a black, button-up shirt and put it on. Anakin's undertunic folds over itself in a very samurai style, so fold one side of the shirt over the other (forming another V-neck) and safety pin it in place. A bit of the undershirt should be visible.
Put on a pair of brown trousers, followed by knee-high black riding boots. Do not tuck in the black shirt.
Drape the vinyl tunic over your shoulders.
Tighten a thick, black leather belt over all of the layers, positioning it high on your belly. It will hold the vinyl tunic in place.
Wear a black leather glove on your right hand to simulate Anakin's robotic hand.
Finish the costume with a dark robe with sleeves and a hood. A dark bathrobe will work if you can't find a better one. However, don't use one made of terrycloth, as the fabric is too distinctive and will be easily identified.
