How to Make Your Own Anti Static Spray for Car Seats

Static electricity builds up on the fabric of car seats. To avoid shock, spray the car seat with white distilled vinegar or diluted fabric softener. Both liquids remove the charge. The vinegar will also remove any odours in the seat, and kill bacteria. The fabric softener leaves a fresh scent inside of the car as it dries into the fabric of the car seat. Store the spray bottle with the mixture under the front passenger seat or in another area to keep it handy any times the static problem arises.

Things you need

  • Empty 1-liter spray bottle
  • Funnel
  • White distilled vinegar
  • 1/2 measuring cup
  • Fabric softener
  • Water

    Open the spray bottle by screwing off the cap. Set the lid aside.

    Place a clean funnel into the opening of the spray bottle. Small kitchen-sized funnels work effectively.

    Pour the vinegar into the funnel until the bottle is full. Remove the funnel. Screw the lid back on tightly. Turn the nozzle to a misting setting.

    Spray the car seat with the vinegar before using it to dispel the static electricity. Do not soak the fabric.

    Pour 1/8 cup of liquid fabric softener into a plastic, 1-liter spray bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water. Screw on the lid.

    Shake the spray bottle to mix the water and fabric softener. Shake it for about 30 seconds.

    Squeeze the handle to spray the mixture onto the car seat. Allow it to dry into the fabric. It will remove the static cling upon impact.
