Using a universal remote control to control the devices in your home entertainment centre simplifies its operation. Rather than using a separate remote control to operate each individual device, you can program one universal remote control to work with all of the devices. There are many different brands and models of universal remote controls. Therefore, the process of programming a universal remote to control an Amino set top box varies depending upon the brand and model of the universal remote control.

Instructions

  1. 1

Manually switch on the Amino set top box.

  2. 2

Press and hold the "CBL" (cable) device selection button located at the top of the Phillips remote control for a minimum of five seconds. Release the button when the LED indicator light, also located at the top of the remote control, comes on and remains lit. This indicates that the remote is now in programming mode.

  3. 3

Enter "9 9 9 9" on the remote control's number pad. This is the code used to place the Phillips remote in code search mode.

  4. 4

Point the Philips remote control at the Amino set top box. Press and hold the remote's "Power" button until the Amino set top box turns off. This process may take up to 15 minutes to complete because the remote is individually testing each of the codes stored in its code library on the Amino set top box. When the set top box responds by shutting off, it means the right code has been found.

  5. 5

Let go of the button immediately after the box shuts off. Press the "CBL" button two times.

Manually switch on the Amino set top box.

  2. 2

Press and hold the "Code Search" button located at the top of the RCA universal remote control until the indicator light comes on.

  3. 3

Push the device selection button dedicated to satellite or cable box devices, probably labelled "SAT / CBL," located at the top of the remote control.

  4. 4

Point the RCA remote control at the Amino set top box. Slowly and repeatedly press the remote "Power" button until the Amino set top box turns off. Every time its Power button is pressed, the RCA remote tests a different code stored in its code library on the Amino set top box. When the set top box responds by shutting off, it means the right code has been found.

  5. 5

Press "Enter" on the RCA remote.

Every time the button is pressed, the Zenith remote tests a different code stored in its code library on the Amino set top box. When the set top box responds by shutting off, it means the right code has been found.

  4. 4

    Push the remote's "Mute" button.
