Park your E46 on a flat surface, and engage the parking brake. Open the boot door.
Remove the carpet from the boot, and remove the left and right plastic boot trays by pulling them straight up.
Remove the three nuts from each bumper shock with a socket wrench. Remove the black bolts from the wheel wells. From each wheel well, pop out the hanger clip attached to the bumper with a slotted screwdriver. At this point, the bumper is ready for removal.
Lift the bumper, and pull it off the rear of the vehicle. Slide a replacement bumper onto the rear of the vehicle.
Reattach the hanger clip, and reinstall the six bolts. Tighten all bolts by reinstalling the nuts from the interior of the boot.
Reattach the boot trays and the carpet. Close the boot.
