Removal of an E36 Mirror

Updated March 23, 2017

If your BMW E36's mirror is damaged, you may want to remove it to replace it. It is illegal to drive without side mirrors. After removing the mirror you will be able to add the new one and be on the road again. All you need is a few tools.

Open your car door and find the inside mirror cover. It is above the door panel in the corner where the door and windshield meet.

Use a flat screwdriver to remove the cover. Wedge the screwdriver into where the cover meets the door and pull the cover off.

Disconnect the wire clip. The clip connects the mirror's electrics to the rest of the car.

Remove the three bolts with a 10mm wrench. Hold the mirror with the opposite hand because removing the bolts removes the mirror.
