How to Change the IMEI Number of a Mobile

Updated April 17, 2017

Your mobile phone's International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number identifies your phone on your wireless network. You would use this code when switching networks on a GSM phone. If you purchased your mobile from an overseas dealer, it might not have a genuine IMEI number. You can safely change your IMEI number with IMEI software. This software detects your specific phone's manufacturer and model, and provides you with the appropriate number.

Download IMEI software (see Resources). Save the file to your desktop. Double click the file and follow the set-up wizard instructions.

Save the software to your computer's hard drive. Restart your computer.

Attach the USB cable to your mobile phone. Connect the other end to an available USB port on your desktop computer or laptop.

Click "Start" and "All Programs." Double-click the IMEI software. Wait for it to launch and detect your cell phone.

Click "New IMEI Number" or a similar function. The software will use the information from your phone to remove the old IMEI and create a new IMEI number.

Write down your new IMEI number. Remember to keep it in a safe place.
