A perfectly made espresso can be a great way to start a day or finish a meal. Espresso makers, though, can be finicky machines. To use a traditional espresso machine, the user must grind coffee beans finely, pack them carefully into the handle, slot the handle properly into the machine, and then clean out the grinds when finished. This demands a lot of attention, more than many people have early in the morning or after a big dinner. The Nespresso Le Cube takes much of the work out of espresso preparation by using extremely simple prepackaged coffee cartridges.

    Remove the Nespresso Cube from its packaging.

    Remove the water reservoir. This is a large, plastic tray that slides out of the back of the machine. Rinse it out with soapy water to remove any factory residue, then fill it up and put it back in the machine.

    Plug the machine in and turn it on by flipping the power switch. This is located on the top of the Nespresso Cube.

    Place shot glasses or small cups for coffee shots on the trays on the top of the machine. The trays will warm the glasses to the right temperature before making the coffee.

    Pull up on the silver lever on the top of the machine. This reveals the holder for the coffee cartridge. Before using it to make coffee, press one of the two coffee buttons (which have pictures of cups on them) with the lever still pulled up. This will run hot water through the system, flushing out any residue from the factory.

    Slide a Nespresso cartridge into the cartridge holder and press down on the silver lever. This locks the cartridge in place and punctures it to allow water to pass through the coffee.

    Place a cup underneath the spout and press one of the "Coffee" buttons. One will show a half-full cup, and is used for small (or "short") shots, while the other shows a more full cup, and can be used to pour larger and weaker ones. After a few moments, espresso will come out of the spout and fill the cup. The machine will automatically stop pouring.

    Pull up on the silver lever to eject the cartridge into the used cartridge tray. When this tray gets full of used cartridges, slide it out of the machine and dispose of them. The coffee can be removed and the cartridges recycled.
