Dell released the Axim X50v in 2004. Earlier models of the device shipped with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 but most units were updated to the Windows Mobile 5 ROM. Things you need
- SD Card reader
Power your PDA on. Remove the SD Card from your Axim. The card is located on the top of the device next to the headphone jack. Press the card and then slide it out.
Insert the Axim's SD Card into your PC. Most computers and laptops have built-in readers; if yours does not, insert the SD Card into an external SD Card reader and connect the reader to a USB port on your PC.
Download the Windows Mobile 6 ROM (see Resources). Extract the ROM files onto your SD Card. Take the SD Card out of the computer and reinsert it into your Axim.
Press and hold down "Wireless," "Reset" and "Power" simultaneously on your PDA. Wait for the Image Loader to pop up.
Click the "Action" button twice to begin the upgrade process. Follow the on-screen prompts and wait for your PDA to reboot automatically. You have now updated your Dell Axim X50v to the latest ROM.
