How to locate the owner of a phone number

Updated March 21, 2017

If you have ever received a mysterious phone call from an unfamiliar number, now you can find out who called you. The Internet has databases that allow you to enter a phone number and find details on the owner of the number. The first place you should look is the Official White Pages, where you can search for a person's phone number or search a phone number to find out who owns the number.

Go to the White Pages. Under "Reverse Phone," fill in the box labelled "Phone Number" with the phone number you are conducting a search on. Click "Find."

Peruse the results of the search to find the name of the owner of the phone number, the age of the owner of the phone number and the address of the owner of the phone number.

Search for additional information on the owner of the phone number for a fee. To gain additional information on the owner of the phone number, you can take advantage of the pay services that are offered with your results.

Ask people you know. If you have no luck with the online databases, you should ask friends and family members if the phone number belongs to them or if they know whose phone number it is. The phone number could possibly belong to a friend or family member who has just purchased a new phone.
