Captain Morgan is the iconic pirate for rum. With his swashbuckling bright red jacket trimmed with gold and his unusual pirate hat, he strikes fear into all who oppose his special brands of rum. Wear this costume with pride while at Fantasy Fest in the Florida Keys, or for your next Halloween party. 1. 1

Buy a chef's hat and dye it red. Iron the gold trim around the crown.

  2. 2

Find a long sweat suit jacket with a zipper in your closet or pick up an oversized one from the local thrift store. Cut the ribbed sections on the bottom of the sweatshirt and around the sleeves and discard. Remove the zipper. Dye the jacket red.

  3. 3

Sew the gold fabric 2 inches above the cut sections of the sleeve and the jacket bottom. Bring the gold fabric down to the previously cut section, cover this section, and bring gold fabric up the other side of the fabric. Measure a 1 inch section of gold fabric on this second side, then sew. Iron on the rectangular pieces of the gold fabric in the zipper section where buttons usually are located.

  4. 4

Wear a white shirt with cuffs and turn them over the sleeves of the jacket. Wrap a white scarf around your neck and let the ends dangle out of the jacket. Put on a pair of baggy blue trousers tucked into a pair of boots

  5. 5

Wrap a wide belt with a huge buckle around the waist of the jacket and tie a blue fleece blanket to your back as a cape.Stick a toy pistol into your belt and carry a toy sword.

Tips and warnings

  • The coat is the main part of the costume to imitate.
  • Put your hair in dreads or pick up a wig for an authentic look.
  • Don't even think about joking with the toy gun while in any retail establishment.
