In 2003, IBM released the T41 model line of its ThinkPad brand of personal laptop computers. Standard features included a 14.1 inch or 15.1 inch TFT-LCD display, Pentium M processor rated from 1.4 GHz to 1.7 GHz and a DVD/CD drive or a rewritable DVD/CD drive. Optional features included two different graphics cards and a choice between the Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating systems. The standard six-cell lithium ion battery could provide power for up to four hours of continuous use. IBM configured the T41 to run a number of functions from "hotkeys."

Insert the battery. Flip the T41 over to expose the empty battery slot. Align the battery so that the battery conduits on the front match up with the connector plates in the T41 battery slot. Slide the front end of the battery in against the connector plates and then lower the back end of the battery into the slot.
Lock the battery into place by sliding the battery latch away from the battery toward the centre of the T41.
Assemble the AC power cord by connecting the AC plug wire to the converter box. The converter box is already connected to the computer jack.
Charge the battery by inserting the computer jack into the socket on the rear panel of the T41 and then plugging the AC plug into a wall outlet.
Flip open the laptop to reveal the display screen.
Turn the T41 on by pressing the power button located on in the centre of the panel above the keyboard.
Enter the T41's power-saving "Standby" mode by pressing the "Fn" key and the "F4" key simultaneously. Return to full power by pressing the "Fn" key.
Switch the T41 into "Hibernate" mode by pressing the "Fn" key and the "F12" key simultaneously. Return to normal mode by pressing and holding down the power key until the display screen comes back on.
Toggle the brightness of your T41. Increase the brightness by pressing the "Fn" key and the "Home" key simultaneously. Decrease the brightness by pressing the "Fn" key and the "End" key simultaneously.
Toggle the T41 wireless networking card. Turn on the wireless networking card to receive a wireless signal by pressing the "Fn" key and the "F5" key simultaneously. Turn off the wireless networking card to use a cable or Ethernet connection by simultaneously pressing "Fn" and "F5" again.
