How to Attach a Rear License Plate on a Passat Wagon

Updated February 21, 2017

VW Passat Wagon models have a number plate bay on the rear door of the vehicle. All models come with at least two screw holes for attaching a plate. Some models may come with two additional screw holes to attach the bottom of the number plate to the vehicle. A number plate can be attached to the rear of a VW Passat without or without a number plate holder.

Unscrew the number plate and/or plate holder from the front of the vehicle. The number plate and/or holder is held in place by at least two screws. Use a Philips screwdriver to unscrew the plate from the bumper.

Slide the new number plate into the number plate holder. If not using a number plate holder, skip to step 3.

Line the number plate or holder up to the screw holes on the rear of VW Passat Wagon door.

Insert a screw through the number plate or holder into each hole on the VW Passat rear door. Tighten the screws in place with the Philips screwdriver.
