How to Put DirectX 9 on Ubuntu

Known for being an alternative operating system, Ubuntu is a form of Linux popular among those familiar with Windows. In an effort to help make the transition to Ubuntu easier, the unique program WINE allows you to install programs designed for Windows, such as DirectX 9. To install DirectX 9, you must first install WINE, which emulates a copy of Windows on top of your installation of Ubuntu.

Instructions

    Open an instance of Terminal. Type in the following commands to install WINE:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install wine1.3

    Download DirectX 9 to your desktop (see Resources).

  3. 3

    Double-click the installation file on your desktop. This automatically opens and installs the program, just as if it were on a regular Windows computer.
