Monoblock amplifiers are single-channel designs, facilitating powering of one speaker at a time. Monoblocks are used in higher power demand applications, where the entire output of the amp is devoted to a single speaker. Utilising a monoblock pair means that any high-current signal demands placed on the amp by the incoming signal will only affect that channel, and not both, as would be the case with most stereo designs. Using monoblock amplification can increase system efficiency, while reducing distortion.
Access the back of the preamplifier and each monoblock amp. Locate the RCA/XLR and speaker terminals.
Insert the RCA jacks into the preamp outputs. For XLR applications, observe the pin orientation, and insert the cable accordingly. Press all the way in until the XLR's latch engages.
Route the RCA or XLR cables to each mono block amplifier. Insert the interconnects in the same manner as on the preamp.
Insert the binding post termination on the speaker wire into the rear of the binding post. Route the cables to each speaker.
Using longer interconnects and shorter speaker wire will result in better power transfer, due to less resistance from distance. If possible, locate the monoblock amps as close to each speaker as possible. Small stands are available for this purpose from a variety of vendors.
To prevent shorts, do not make system connections with power applied.
