The Dell Laser Printer 3000cn is a mid-range upright colour printer built for heavy workloads. The device's drum and toner cartridge work together as one to produce copies. Over time, the drum may become soiled with toner, which can cause copies to appear "dirty" or smeared. Cleaning the drum ensures your copies appear professional. If you have to consistently clean the drum, this may be an indication of a deeper problem. You may have to replace the drum to ensure the printer continues to work properly.

  1. 1

Pull the notch on the front door and pull the top portion of the printer upward. The top and bottom portion of the printer should be open.

  2. 2

Push the blue lever up on the right inside of the printer. This unlocks the drum from the unit.

  3. 3

Pull the handle on the drum up and out to remove the unit.

  1. 1

Place several drops of alcohol on the cloth.

  2. 2

Rub the cloth gently along the area that contains excess toner. Repeat if the area is well saturated with toner.

  3. 3

Dip a cotton swab in alcohol and gently clean small or difficult-to-reach areas. Repeat the process until the areas are clean.

  1. 1

Align the drum arrows with the arrows on the printer.

  2. 2

Push the unit into the printer using the drum's handle.

  3. 3

Push the lever down on the right inside portion of the printer. Close both covers and wait until the machine recognises the drum.

  4. 4

Print a test piece of paper to see if there are toner blotches. If so, consider cleaning the unit again or replacing it altogether.
