How to Restore a TomTom Without Backup

Updated February 21, 2017

A TomTom GPS system may malfunction, as many other types of electronics do from time to time. Sometimes added files and maps may cause the GPS to not function properly. Whatever the cause, the TomTom may need to be restored. The results of a system restore is similar to those results of a restore on a computer: the TomTom will restore to its original factory settings and all new maps and files will be removed. The files and maps will not be backed up during the restore process.

Power on the device.

Select "Change Preferences" from the home screen.

Hit "Reset factory settings." If this option is not available, select "Show ALL menu options" form the Change Preferences menu. Then hit "Reset factory settings."
