How do I Refill a PIXMA iP3600?

The Canon Pixma iP3600 uses ink jet print technology, meaning it houses several cartridges or tanks of liquid ink. The cartridges sit in dedicated slots on the cartridge assembly, which moves from side to side inside the printer. Electrical impulses trigger the cartridges to spray tiny droplets of the different-coloured ink onto specific areas of pages as they pass through the printer. When the ink runs out in one of the cartridges, you may see an alert on your computer screen or the "Ink Low" warning light flashing on the printer itself.

  1. 1

Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it on. Fold down the output paper tray.

  2. 2

Open the printer's top cover. Wait for the cartridge assembly to stop in the centre of the printer.

  3. 3

Replace the cartridge with the flashing or non-illuminated light. Press on the tab at the front of the cartridge, then lift it out of its slot.

  4. 4

Remove the new cartridge from its packaging. Twist the orange cap off the bottom of the cartridge and discard the cap.

  5. 5

Insert the front bottom edge of the cartridge first, then press down until the tab clicks into place. Ensure the cartridge's light illuminates.

  6. 6

Close the printer's top cover. Wait as the printer calibrates the new cartridge before trying to process any print jobs.
