How to Block Sites on Chrome

You might want to block a site in Google Chrome for various reasons. Perhaps you need to get more work done but you keep getting distracted and checking your e-mail or Facebook. Maybe you are a parent and you don't want your young children viewing certain sites. Whatever the reason, you can block sites in Google Chrome easily using Google Chrome extensions.

Instructions

    Install the Chrome extension "Chrome Nanny" by going to the Chrome Nanny website (see Resources).

    Right-click on the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar. Click "Options."

    Enter the URL of the website you would like to block.

    Check the boxes for the days of the week you want the site blocked and enter the time of day that the site should be blocked. You can use this extension to block a site with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    Click "Add Url." Repeat the above steps for any other sites you want blocked.

Tips and warnings

  • Another extension that works similar to Chrome Nanny is Stay Focused. Download the extension from the Chrome extension website. The only difference between this extension and Chrome Nanny is that Stay Focused allows you to visit the blocked site for a limited amount of time each day. You cannot set the options to block the site completely.
