The Kodak 5300 EasyShare All-in-One is a photo and document printer that also scans and copies. The 5300 uses two ink cartridges to print. The printhead applies the ink from the cartridges to materials such as photo, letter, cardstock or specialised paper, transparency film and iron-ons. Ink can accumulate on the printhead, resulting in print-quality issues such as fading, blank spots and lines, and spotting. When that happens it is necessary to clean the printhead.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Turn on your Kodak 5300 printer. Lift up the LCD screen and rest it at an angle so that you can view it clearly.

  2. 2

Push the "Menu" button beside the Left Arrow button on the control panel.

  3. 3

Press the "Down Arrow" button to scroll through the main menu on the LCD. Stop when "Clean Printhead" is highlighted on the screen.

  4. 4

Select the "Clean Printhead" menu by pushing the "OK" button.

  5. 5

Choose a cleaning option. To do a basic cleaning, choose "Basic Clean" by pushing the "OK" button. To do a more thorough cleaning, choose "Deep Clean" by pushing the "Down Arrow" button once and then the "OK" button.

Tips and warnings

  • To issue a command to clean the printhead from your computer instead of through the printer control panel, open the printer Home Center on your computer. Open the Help Panel by clicking the question mark icon in the upper right corner of the application window, select "Maintenance" under General Links and click "Printhead Cleaning" to begin the cleaning process.
