How to Convert Napster to MP3

Updated April 17, 2017

Convert your Napster songs to MP3 files for free. Old Napster WMA file songs are DRM-protected and won't play on some digital music players without "Napster to go." The "Napster to go" option charges a small fee for the ability to transfer music to a digital music player. Fortunately, iTunes provides a free way to convert the DRM-protected files to MP3.

Download the iTunes program from the Apple website. Run the set-up to install it on your computer.

Open iTunes and click "File" in the upper left-hand corner. Click on "Add folder to Library" and find the folder containing your purchased Napster songs. This folder is usually under C:/My Documents/My Music.

Click "Select Folder" to import the songs into your iTunes library.

Create a new play list in iTunes by clicking "File" and "New Playlist Folder." Title the folder "Napster Songs."

Drag the songs you want to convert from your iTunes library into the new play list folder. Once you've dragged all the songs you want into the folder, open the folder.

Highlight all the songs by holding down the "Shift" key on the keyboard and clicking once on each song.

Click on "Advanced" in the upper left-hand corner of the program once all the songs are highlighted. Select "Create MP3 Version." This will create MP3 versions of all the songs.

Delete the WMA versions of the songs from iTunes once the conversion has finished.

New Napster songs should already be in MP3 format.
