You don't need a candle lighter to ignite a candle that has an open, exposed wick. You can use a match. But, it's not that easy to light a candle that's inside a tall holder or inside a glass jar. Reach down inside the holder with a regular-length match, and you'll burn your fingers. A cigarette lighter won't work either. Don't despair. You can easily light a candle by using something you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard.
Place the candle you want to light, the spaghetti and the match in front of you. Remove the match from the book or box. Strike the match to light it. Hold the uncooked piece of spaghetti in the other hand so the end farthest from you is slightly downward.
Hold the lit match to the end of the spaghetti until the pasta ignites. Blow the match out and dispose of it in an ashtray or other fireproof container. Or, dip the match in tap water to safely extinguish it.
Use the piece of uncooked spaghetti to light the wick of the candle, according to Real Simple. Hold the burning end to the wick until it lights. Then, blow out the lit end of the piece of spaghetti or dip it in water.
Tip
A long piece of spaghetti will burn long enough to light several candles, according to Real Simple.
