As a gaming computer, the Dell XPS M1730 is a pretty powerful machine. One of the faults that many gamers experience when using their laptop to play online is a small screen. When a gamer plays on a laptop, the resolution can suffer and cause problems within the game. Because of this, many gamers use the Dell XPS M1730 as their main gaming console because of the dual monitor ports on the side of the computer.

    Turn on your Dell XPS M1730 using the power button on the top of the keyboard.

    Plug your external monitor into an electrical socket.

    Turn the external monitor on.

    Connect the one end of the VGA cable to into the VGA port on your external monitor.

    Connect the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA port of the Dell XPS M1730.

    Go to the "Desktop" on your computer and right click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" from the menu.

    Click "Display Properties" from the new menu that pops up.

    Click on the "Settings" tab.

    Click the "Display List" on the next window and click the small box next to "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor."
